How To Change Your UPI PIN Without Debit Card on Google Pay
Google Pay now lets users create and activate their UPI account without requiring a debit card. The app allows users to sign up for UPI via the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) with their Aadhaar numbers.
Google states that introducing an Aadhaar-based onboarding option for UPI will help widen its reach, since around 99.9% of the adult population in India are Aadhaar card holders.
"As UPI scales to the next hundreds of millions of Indian users, this is expected to help many more users set up UPI IDs and enable them to make digital payments. This feature is now available to bank account holders of supported banks," Google said in a statement.
How to Set Up UPI Account Without Debit Card
Google Pay has introduced an alternate sign up method for users who don't want to bother with a debit card. To make use of the new onboarding process, the user will first have to ensure that the same phone number is linked with both the Aadhar card and the bank account.
Additionally, the bank account and the Aadhar account need to be linked. The Aadhar-based onboarding method is currently being rolled out to customers of banks who support the service. We can expect Google to expand the list of supported banks in the future.
Here's how you can set up UPI with your Aadhar number
- If you don't have the Google Pay app, first download it from the Google Play Store.
- Once installed, open the app and you will see the setup screen with two options, verify using Debit/ATM card and verify using Aadhar. Select Aadhar.
- To initiate the setup, enter the first six digits of your Aadhar number.
- You will be prompted to create a secure PIN for future payments.
- After confirming the PIN, you will have to enter a six-digit Aadhar OTP that will be sent to the linked phone number.
- After entering the correct OTP, you will be prompted to enter a six-digit bank OTP.
- Once the OTP is verified, you will have to set a six-digit UPI PIN to secure your account.
Once the account is successfully created, customers will be able to make transactions and view their balance via Google Pay. Google states that it does not store the Aadhar number, it is simply passed on to the UIDAI via NPCI for validation.
